LYNCHBURG, VA — Liberty came back after dropping the first set to move past High Point in Round 2 of the 2019 NIVC. Liberty had lost five straight matches to High Point, including Big South tournament matches in 2016 and 2017 that ended Liberty’s season. The Flames (21-11) will play at Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals with the match set for 7 p.m. ET on Dec. 10. The Panthers close their season at 21-13. High Point was up 17-14 in the second set, but Liberty took the lead at 23-22 with a kill from Aspen Thompson and was able to even the match. The Flames hit .448 in the third set. For Liberty, Amelia Johnson had 15 kills and 11 digs; Payton Carter added 12 kills and nine digs, and Anna Gragg had 10 kills. Hannah Morris came through with 23 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Annie Sullivan had a career-high 22 kills for High Point. Megan Kratzer had 14 kills; Maria Miggins had 43 assists, and Abby Bottomley closed with 26 digs. |
