NACOGDOCHES, TX - Arkansas State advanced to the Great 8 of the 2024 NIVC with a thrilling back-and-forth five-set victory over Stephen F. Austin (19-25, 25-17, 25-16, 16-25, 15-12). The Red Wolves dropped the first set but came roaring back to take the next two sets and seemingly seize control of the match. SFA would not go away, however, and showcased its resilience by winning the fourth set to force a winner-take-all fifth-set. In the fifth set, Arkansas State's defense came up big, forcing SFA into five attack errors and just .107 hitting, en route to a 15-12 victory. For the match, SFA hit just .193. Arkansas State's offense was also held at bay for most of the match, hitting just .197, with both teams racking up 12 blocks. Daedrianna Cail led Arkansas State with 14 kills and seven blocks, while Kaitlin Whitlock added a double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs. Whitlock also led the Red Wolves with three service aces. As a team, Arkansas State racked up nine aces. Arkansas State will take on the winner of Georgia Southern and Northern Colorado in the Great 8. |
