TCU 3, NORTH TEXAS 2 (24-26, 25-21,23-25, 25-23, 15-10)
DENTON, TX -- TCU came back from a 2-1 deficit after three sets, pulling out a nailbiter in Set 4 and taking an early lead in Set 5 to post a victory over North Texas and move to the quarterfinals of the NIVC. The Horned Frogs (14-16) will host two quarterfinal matches on Dec. 6. First, UC Irvine and Texas Tech will play at 4 p.m. CT, then TCU takes on Green Bay at 7 p.m. CT. In the match versus North Texas, TCU got a career-high 25 kills from Anna Walsh; Lexi Maclean added 14 kills and Abigail Buckingham had 10 kills. Dani Dennison had 20 digs. The Mean Green (29-4) got 16 kills from Alexis Wright, and 14 kills each from Holly Milam and Valerie Valerian. Milam also had 16 digs. Setter Karley York had 55 assists and 10 digs. GREEN BAY 3, ILLINOIS STATE 1 (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 26-24)
GREEN BAY, WI - Green Bay (17-15) did not disappoint the home crowd, handling Illinois State (22-13) in four sets to advance to Round 3 of the 2017 NIVC. The Phoenix will face the winner of TCU and North Texas at a time, date and location to be determined. Illinois State was paced by Juma Armando, who finished with 13 kills, three digs and two blocks. Jaelyn Keene also finished in double figures with 11 kills, eight digs and seven big blocks for the Redbirds. The Wolf's were once again a main staple in Green Bay's offense. In fact, four Phoenix players (Jessica Wolf, Lydia Deweese, Taylor Wolf, Roberta Todd) all finished with at least 10 kills. Setter Maddie Yoss tallied a tournament-high 47 assists in the win. SYRACUSE 3, TOWSON 0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-23)
HAMILTON, NY - Syracuse (22-12) relied heavily on its front line in Round 2 of the 2017 NIVC against Towson (27-6). Forty-six kills and 11 blocks paved the way to the Orange's 3-0 victory and its spot in Round 3. Julymar Otero and Jocelyn Kuilan each finished with nine kills for the Tigers. Anna Holehouse led the defense with 18 digs and also contributed an ace. Ultimately, it was 26 attacking errors that separated the Tigers from a victory. Santita Ebangwese was superb for the Orange, totaling 16 kills, six blocks and four assists. Amber Witherspoon added 11 digs as Syracuse hit .274 in the win. The Orange will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia, for Round 3 on Monday, December 4, at 6 p.m. ET. TEXAS TECH 3, TEXAS STATE 0 (25-18, 25-10, 26-24)
SAN MARCOS, TX -- Texas Tech hit .306 and pulled off a comeback late in Set 3 to wrap up a sweep of host Texas State and move into Round 3 of the NIVC. The Raiders (17-14) will face UC Irvine in the next round. Texas Tech got 14 kills from Chandler Atwood and 12 kills from Emily Hill. Coming through with nine kills was Katy Keenan, and Missy Owens had 33 assists and eight digs. The Bobcats (25-10) got 12 kills from Jaliyah Bolden, 25 assists from Erin Hoppe and 21 digs from Micah Dinwiddie. |
