UCF 3, UNC GREENSBORO 0
Athens, GA - UCF could not be stopped in the opening round of the 2017 NIVC. The Knights jumped out to the early lead over the Spartans and never looked back, sweeping UNC Greensboro three sets to none to advance to Round 2. The Knights came out firing in the first set, particularly from the service line. Kia Bright, Taylor Wickey, Erin Olson and Mary Kate Painter all tallied at least one ace in the first set. Eleven errors from the Spartans ultimately gave UCF the cushion it needed to close out set number one. In the second set, the Knight’s front line came to life. Fifteen kills to just five errors led to a .517 kill percentage in the set as UCF cruised to a 2-0 advantage. Annchara Montgomery and Maria Esch did their best to keep the Spartan’s tournament hopes alive. Montgomery notched eight kills and three blocks and Esch contributed with seven kills and three blocks of her own. Kia Bright finished with a game-high 12 kills for the Knights in the sweep. Jeanne Westney proved to be a wall in the opening round matchup, finishing with eight blocks, five more than any other player. UCF will face the winner of Georgia and Alabama A&M in a match slated for Wednesday, November 29, at 7 p.m. ET. |
