Morgantown, WV - Playing in front of a home crowd, West Virginia dominated from beginning to end. The Mountaineers used some stellar hitting, combining for 53 kills to secure its spot in Round 2 of the 2017 NIVC, sweeping the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 3-0. West Virginia moves on to play Temple in the Round of 16. Temple is also coming off a sweep in the first round against Campbell. Temple and West Virginia will duel on Wednesday, November 29, at 6 p.m. ET. Lucia Babic led the way for UMES, totaling nine kills and coming up with six digs on the night. UMES committed just 10 attacking errors on the night and out-blocked the Mountaineers 6-0. For West Virginia, it was the Payton Caffrey show. Seventeen kills and an equally as impressive 17 digs was a game-high in both categories. Caffrey's performance, combined with a team .379 hitting percentage paved the way for the Mountaineers into Round 2. |
